Bio:

Way back in 5th grade, my class wrote Halloween stories. I was chosen to read mine aloud, and it seemed very successful--a heady feeling! And I had loved writing that story. I was hooked.
Much later, after graduating from Iowa State U, marrying, and having 3 children, I tried to write with an eye to being published. Yeeha, it worked! So I could wear a writer's charmingly engrossed expression from 8 until 3 p.m., and then, with no effort at all, put on the mother's alarmed and frazzled look for the rest of the day.
Now it is 2010 and my 20th book has just been published. Four were textbooks about SAT prep and vocabulary-building for high schoolers, and the 16 have been books for kids 6 to 10 (short chapter books) or 8 to 12. I still love writing, and I especially love talking to kids, teachers, and parents about the craft of writing.
