I studied Illustration at Northern Illinois University (BFA) and Medical Illustration at the University of Illinois at Chicago (MAMS). I have been a freelance medical illustrator since 1992. In 1998 my wife and I adopted the first two of our four children and I became interested in working in the children's illustration market.
I have written and illustrated an alphabet book (Rogue's Alphabet) which is still looking for a publisher, and which won the bronze medal for children's illustration in the 3X3 Show in 2007.
In November of 2008 I won the SCBWI illustrator contest (Thanks But No Thanks). I was runner-up in my (Wisconsin) chapter's annual retreat scholarship competition (Marsha Dunlop Scholarship) for my YA novel "Balls Of Steel" in October 2009. During the same retreat I won the illustrator's contest, judged by Carus Publishing's Karen Kohn.
I am currently working on several speculative and/or collaborative projectsincluding three more YA novels and art for two other PB projects.
My wife and I live with our four kids in Madison, Wisconsin, where we like to pick apples, swim, go to the library and smash our pumpkins every November 1st.
