Bio:
Twyla Dawn Weixl is a published Canadian writer/ illustrator and has worked in Munich, Germany since 1979. After studying art at Concordia in Montreal, Twyla apprenticed in film animation studios in Munich, which helped put her on the special effects team of the fantasy film "The Neverending Story". As the production designer for the cult German TV music show "Formel Eins", she designed sets for musicians such as Stevie Wonder and George Harrison, as well as LP and CD covers, merchandising products, etc. Her first book, "Twenty-two feelings from nice to nasty", which she both wrote and illustrated, was published by Napoleon in Toronto, 2000.
Since earning her Magister (5 year German degree) in Art and English Education at Munich's Ludwig Maximilian University in 2008, she has taught Art and English as a free-lance instructor in schools and businesses. She teaches her "Creative English Comic Project" at Munich schools, teaching German teens classic drawing skills for comics, in English. But her true passion belongs to her book projects. Currently she is working on a YA novel about air force brats growing up in the 1960s Cold War, set in Canada and Germany, which may morph into a graphic novel.
Twyla has been a very active member of SCBWI Germany since 2007, and has one son, Jasper.
