Bio:
Joyce C. Ragland - RA for Missouri as of January, 2011 - is the author of more than one hundred academic publications in the form of two books, articles, reports, conference proceedings, training modules, conference papers and so forth. She has been editor or reviewer of publications by Prentice-Hall, McGraw-Hill, Wiley and others. In addition to academic publications, she has published some short stories and poetry. She has a nearly-completed YA manuscript, A Route 66 Family (is it ever complete?)and a narrative non-fiction WIP, The Life and Times of FRED.
Honors include appointment as 2011-13 RA for Missouri, the summer 2004 John Goodlad Symposium Education in a Democracy; a Schingoethe Center Fellowship, The Cherokee Education System Spring-Summer 2004; Outstanding Parent Volunteer, Science Hill High School; College of the Ozarks Alumni Association's "Meritorious Award for Distinguished Achievements" recipient; International Who’s Who of Professional & Business Women; Golden Poet Award; Speaker for the Laclede County Historical Society, Rotary, Kiwanis, and the Laclede County Retired School Personnel Association.
In 2005, Ragland took early retirement to devote more time to writing and to do philanthropy. She founded a not-for-profit corporation, the Ella Ragland Art Company, dedicated to fund-raising for local Alzheimer’s research and patient therapy. She serves as President of that company. In 2007, she published her first children’s story, How Cupcake Puppy…Como Cupcake, La Cachorra Fue Nombrada, as part of that venture. The book is bilingual, side-by-side English and Spanish pages. Good friend and professor of Spanish at Aurora University, Denise Hatcher, provided the Spanish translation.
Ragland holds degrees requisite for an academic career: EdD, Ed Specialist, MA -- focused on Educational Administration & Psychology -- with emphasis in curriculum; and, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music - and a writer, always a writer of fiction and non-fiction.
Member of of MWG (Missouri Writers' Guild), SWG (Springfield Writers' Guild), the OWAIC (Ozarks Writers and Illustrators for Children), OWL (Ozarks' Writers League), the Authors' Guild, SCBWI and the MoSCBI.
