Susi Gregg Fowler

Bio:

I live and write in the same community in which I grew up -- Juneau, Alaska. I've been writing most of my life, although for many years my work ranged from retail (I basically grew up in my grandmother's extraordinary book shop) to technical writing, from serving as a political hack to working in the legislature in nonpartisan journal production/parliamentary offices, and from being a legal assistant to serving as producer for one of our local amateur opera companies. I wrote the first play and helped to found Perseverance Theatre, a successful regional theater, and along the way was was also part of a women's band performing all original music and traveling to small communities throughout the state. Oh, yeah, and then there was parenting, several years of homeschooling, and now the joy of being a grandparent. Not really a very straight career path!

My first book, WHEN SUMMER ENDS, was published by Greenwillow Books in 1989, and since then, I've had two chapter books and another six picture books published, all but the last two by Greenwillow. CIRCLE OF THANKS, was published by Scholastic and my newest book, ARCTIC AESOP'S FABLES:TWELVE RETOLD TALES was published by Sasquatch. My husband Jim Fowler has illustrated seven of my books, and in 1995 we were awarded Christopher Medals for our collaboration, I'LL SEE YOU WHEN THE MOON IS FULL.

I also enjoy writing poetry and essays, and have had work published in several journals and anthologies, including THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR, BINNACLE, UNDERWIRED, SKIRT!, CIRQUE, CENTRIFUGAL EYE, and TIDAL ECHOES.
