Bio:

I love writing stories for girls with smart, funny heroines in contemporary, multi-cultural settings with adventure, depth and meaning. I’ve written in several genres, currently marketing chapter books. I’ve published one play and won a couple Writer’s Digest honor awards. As a freelance writer, I've published numerous articles, essays, and marketing materials.
My fiction was nurtured in classes at the Loft Literary Center, SCBWI conferences, and critique groups with published authors. My funny bone was nurtured volunteering with kids-- Free Arts, directing plays, coaching Destination Imagination to regional championships, Masterpiece Art presenter etc--in the inner city. Kids are fun.
Degrees in sociology/journalism/art led to early jobs in social work and environmental planning. But my favorite job was State Capitol Tour Guide, telling stories to thousands of people of all ages, mostly kids.
When I'm not writing, I make colorful art with handmade paper, paint and found objects--greeting cards, journals and rehabbing old cigar boxes into arty treasures. I believe in community art, most recently developing a project that recycled junk mail back into trees--big arty ones.
