Bio:

I am a retired teacher, having taught first grade for thirty-five years. I enjoyed seeing the magic that happens when children learn to decipher words, sentences and then to read books!
I belong to a writing critique group, mentored by Sally Hobart Alexander. Our group of women, ages 30 through 80, is multi talented, intelligent and offering varied manuscripts. We have become a family sharing more than our writing.
A colleague and I have founded Character Builders llc. It is a program for children 6 thru 16 teaching respect, responsibility and how to handle bullying. We have been teaching after school programs at the "Y" and at Boys and Girls Clubs.
I also have a puppet, named 'Happy' who teaches making healthy choices when eating. He teaches the importance of dental care and exercise. 'Happy'is quite the character.
For the past two years, I've been fighting a recurrence of breast cancer and that has kept me from pursuing my passion of making this a better world with and for our children. I'm recovering and hope to be back doing what I love.

2012

What a downer to start with but, I spent 2011 and the first three weeks of 2012 undergoing chemotherapy for a third recurrence of breast canver. I'm writing oftener than one might think, and attending our critique group when I have the energy. I'm thrilled to be attending the 2012 conference and am hoping that 2012 is a better year. Perhaps, this year, I'll be brave and submit some of my work.
