Bio:
A native Texan, I moved to Guelph, Ontario, Canada, more than thirty years ago and find it a good place to live and work. I am a certified teacher and did substitute teaching for ten years. My first books came out in 1988 and I now have 18 published books as well as pieces in periodicals. These range from poetry and picture books to non-fiction to biography, for ages birth to about 12, but I would like to think they are for everyone.
My best- known books might be Gifts and Jeremiah Learns to Read or perhaps Ten for Dinner, all published by Scholastic Canada and New York. My newest book, published in April 2009, is Big and Small, Room for All from Tundra Books, affiliated with Random House http://www.randomhouse.com/author/results.pperl?authorid=34264
In this work, I try to express the awe I feel for the world we live in, with its beauty and complexity, and so many things we can’t even see.
Arranging a small number of words in a pleasant and meaningful way is my favorite kind of writing. I have long written song lyrics and have six songs on the Eddie Douglas JUNO nominated CD for kids, Gonna Keep Dancing. I am pleased to be a proud grandmother of two.
