Jerry Pinkney

Jerry Pinkney is the acclaimed illustrator of award-winning books for children. During his illustrious career he has received three Caldecott Honor Medals for his books John Henry, The Talking Eggs, and Mirandy and Brother Wind. He has the unique distinction of being the only illustrator to have won the Coretta Scott King Award three times. In addition, he has received three awards for his body of work, the Drexel Citation for Children’s Literature, the David McCord Award, and the Philadelphia School of Art and Design Alumni Award. Beyond illustrating books for children, Jerry Pinkney has enjoyed a successful career as an artist with eleven one-man retrospectives and numerous commercial projects including eleven postage stamps for the U.S. Postal Service Black Heritage series. In addition, Jerry Pinkney has taught at the University of Delaware and State University of New York at Buffalo, and continues to speak around the country.
