TEIGIT Insurance
Major Medical, Hospital Indemnity, and Life Insurance are available to SCBWI members through participation in TEIGIT, The Entertainment Industry Group Insurance Trust.
Due to continual complaints received regarding the CSS policy through Aetna (through the National Writer's Union), we are no longer offering information on this plan. The discount was not significant anyway. Alternatively, we are encouraging people to seek individual or family plans through Blue Cross/Blue Shield or some other insurance carrier.
TEIGIT Health Insurance Information
Since 1965, The Entertainment Industry Group Insurance Trust (TEIGIT) has administered health insurance plans for members of participating associations in the arts and entertainment industry throughout the country.
Current health insurance programs are underwritten by CIGNA in New Jersey, Connecticut, California (with the exception of a few counties), the greater Chicago area, the greater Atlanta area, Indiana (Lake, LaPorte and Porter counties only), Southern Florida, and the Tampa, FL area. The CIGNA coverage is no longer available in New York.
If you are thinking about signing up with TEIGIT, please note that you must be a member of the SCBWI for at least 30 days prior to the effective date of coverage (1st of the month). Also, your application must be received by the 20th day of the month preceding the starting date selected (1st of the month). Should the 20th fall on a Saturday, Sunday or national holiday, the next business day will apply.
Current plans include HMO, PPO, Point of Service, Dental, Disability, and Group Life Insurance. TEGIT and SCBWI are always working to add coverage in other areas of the country. Not all plans are offered in the above areas. Please check with TEIGIT for a current listing of covered areas and plans available.
