About the Illustrator...
 |
The 2010 SCBWI Conference Illustration that you'll see here at scbwi.org, on the brochure you'll be receiving in the mail, and on all of our conference collateral materials is the work of illustrator David Ercolini. At last year's SCBWI Winter Conference in New York, David attended the Pre-Conference Intensive for Illustrators, submitted a portfolio in the Private Portfolio Exhibit, and won. As he Grand Prize Winner David received several meetings with art directors in New York, arranged by SCBWI.
When Elizabeth B. Parisi, art director at Scholastic, saw David's work, she knew right away that something special had walked through the door. “I was blown away by both his sense of color and use of light—the way it kept your eye travelling,” says Parisi. “His ability to think sequentially in his wordless book dummy was beautiful and left us all wanting more.” Soon, Ken Geist had found a project for David: a new manuscript from picture book author Kevin Lewis. Look for it on the 2011 list from Scholastic.
We're incredibly excited that SCBWI played a part in launching David's career in the world of picture books. If you're an illustrator we hope you'll sign up for the Illustrators' Intensive and enter a portfolio in the portfolio exhibition. It could be your art on the brochure next year! |
