The 2009 Sid Fleischman Award
As if Being 12 ¾ Isn’t Bad Enough, My Mother is Running for President, written by Donna Gephart and published by Delacorte is the recipient of the 2009 Sid Fleischman Humor Award. Vanessa Rothrock, the unique and funny main character in Gephart’s novel, has enough problems dealing with the social scene at school when suddenly she finds herself thrown into the spotlight and the unwelcome scrutiny that comes with her mother’s national campaign.
The Fleischman Award was established by the SCBWI to honor humorous work, so often overlooked in children’s literature by most award committees. Ms. Gephart receives her award August 9, 2009, at the Golden Kite Awards Luncheon at the 2009 SCBWI Summer Conference in Los Angeles.
