Open Road Denies Copyright Infringement in Response to Lawsuit Brought By HarperCollins - Thursday, February 23, 2012
As expected, Open Road has filed a response in the infringement action brought by HarperCollins refuting the claim that it infringed Harper's copyright when it published an ebook version of the classic "Julie of the Wolves". The author, Jean Craighead George, stated that when she signed the original contract with Harper, ebook rights did not exist so she could not grant them; therefore, the contract she entered into for e-rights with Open Road was perfectly valid. Thus, contends Open Road, no infringement exists.
