Remembering Nancy Lewis - Wednesday, November 10, 2010
The Metro NY chapter of SCBWI is very sad to announce the passing of a long time member and cherished friend, Nancy D. Lewis, on October 24, 2010.  She was 51 years old.

Born in Rochester, NY, she grew up in Virginia.  She received her BA from The College of William and Mary and earned two Master’s Degrees from NYU.  She worked at the Voter’s News Service, the Sci Fi channel and for the last 15 years, was a student, teacher and tech staff guru at ITP, Tisch School of the Arts.

Besides her technological expertise and her love of writing for children, her heart also belonged to the Metro Baptist Church, where she was a deacon, served on any committee that needed help and served on the board of their community outreach nonprofit, Rauschenbusch Metro Ministries.

With SCBWI, Nancy served in many capacities, starting with filling in at the last moment to run The Bank Street Conference, the forerunner of our current SCBWI Winter Conference, and was our co-regional advisor for over 15 years.  She was named Member of the Year in 2002 by SCBWI, and when accepting her award, she exclaimed, “Stop me from volunteering again!”

Connie Heckert, the RA from Iowa summed it up the best when she said, “Nancy served long and loyally, and she will be remembered and missed.”
