2009 SCBWI Don Freeman Memorial Grants
Abigail Halpin of Wells, Maine, is this year’s $1500 Don Freeman Memorial Grant-in-Aid recipient. The runner-up grant of $500 has been awarded to Hannah Morris of East Corinth, Vermont. This year the judges gave Honorable Mentions to Youme Oh and Youngsun Kim.
Our congratulations to all the recipients and sincere thanks to judges Susan Sherman, art director at Charlesbridge Publishing; illustrator and SCBWI board member Priscilla Burris; and Kristine Brogno, design director at Chronicle Books.
Our special thanks to coordinator, Judy Enderle, for working so hard to keep alive the spirit of Don Freeman, who never hesitated to help and mentor the next generation of illustrators.
