Hello Fellow Writers,
Announcing a great SCBWI Alaska Opportunity
Virtual Critique with Professional Literary Agents
Manuscripts due July 15th, critique workshop Aug 11th, time and locations TBA
Participants will have fifteen pages of their manuscripts critiqued by either Emily Gref of Lowenstein Associates (www.lowensteinassociates.com), or Jennifer Rofe of Andrea Brown Literary Agency (www.andreabrownlit.com). This is for Poetry, Picture Books, Middle Grade, and Young Adult novels. A few weeks later, we will come together for a workshop to receive and review our written critiques with our peers. We will break into groups of 4-5, share our opinions about the same piece of work, and then listen to the professional critique. So not only will we learn from our own critique, we’ll hear the professional's opinions of others' work, too. Your written critique will be of the same quality and caliber you would receive at a conference…without the high cost of travel.
For our members who are not living in Anchorage, it is also possible to receive the critique without participating in the workshop. (No discount in price.) OR...
I am hoping that there will be enough people in other towns so that they can get together, too. SCBWI is a volunteer organization. Here is your chance to help build our community. (Remember SCBWI is a volunteer organization.) If you live outside of Anchorage, would you be willing to organize your village’s workshop? This task just requires choosing a place and time to meet, and letting others know. You could also let your fellow writers know about this wonderful opportunity to get your work under the eyes of a professional.
Cost $50 SCBWI, Society of Children Book Writers and Illustrators members, $55 non-members
Please visit www.SCBWI.org for details and benefits of membership
Please email Stefanie Tatalias via the SCBWI website, or at statalias@me.com if you have any questions, desire to volunteer for this or another event, and to RSVP.
Sincerely,
