The ABCs of Picture Books and Easy Readers - What are editors looking for in picture books and easy readers? How should they be submitted? What can you do to increase your chances of making a sale? We'll look at topics, word choice, word count, illustration possibilities, page turns and submission procedures.

Bio: Jo S. Kittinger is the author of more than 25 books for children -- fiction and non-fiction, picture books, easy readers, e-picture books, and middle grade nonfiction. Most recently are three picture books, Rosa's Bus: The Ride to Civil Rights (Calkins Creek Books), which won a Crystal Kite award, The House on Dirty-Third Street (Peachtree Publishers, 2012) and A Breath of Hope (American Bar Association Publishers, 2012). In addition, she has published numerous items in various books, magazines, educational materials and newspapers. For a while, Jo saw the opposite side of the desk in the publishing industry when she worked as an editorial assistant at The Flicker children’s magazine. Jo currently serves as a Regional Advisor for the Southern Breeze region (AL, MS, GA) of the SCBWI.
