Presentation Skills, with Glenn Swift
Glenn Swift will conduct a workshop focusing on speaking and presentation skills. Glenn will draw on his years of experience as a storyteller, public speaker extraordinaire, and teacher of the Alexander Technique, to teach you skills that will help you become an engaging and relaxed presenter. Learn how to minimise your nerves and maximise your presence and to speak confidently in a way that engages and inspires your audience. This workshop is aimed at published members and numbers will be limited to 16 participants.
Child's Play? An Introduction to the World of Writing/Illustrating for Children
Newer members looking for an introduction to the industry (or more experienced members wishing to join in the conversation) are invited to attend SCBWI 101, our crash course in everything you wanted to know about writing/illustrating for children but hadn't yet thought of asking. How does publishing work? Where can I get up-to-date market information? Does 'no unsolicited submissions' mean just that? What about 'no simultaneous submissions'? Do I really need an agent? What if I'm offered a contract? What if I'm not offered a contract? Someone has offered to publish my story and I only have to pay $2000 - is this a good deal? What are all these acronyms - PLR? ELR? CAL? CBC? ANWOS? - you guys keep throwing around?
Our panel will cover the FAQs of the industry and answer any and all questions from the floor. Feel free to send any questions or general discussion topics you might like to raise to Meg in advance; this will help us plan the session, but questions on the day will be equally welcome
Time/Date: 9.30-12.30, 16 March 2013
Venue: State Library of WA, Perth Cultural Centre.
Glenn's session will take place in the Northwest Room on the 2nd Floor.
Child's Play will be in the Education Room, off "The Place" on the Mezzanine Floor.
