Step By Step: Working Creatively With An Art Director
Laurent Linn, art director for Simon and Schuster Publishing, will lead this professional development workshop intended to mirror the actual process of working with an art director. As a participant, you will receive a picture book manuscript in advance. You will choose one 2-page spread to illustrate from this manuscript and do a sketch of the illustration. This sketch will be emailed to Laurent through SCBWI. Laurent will review the sketches and make art direction comments as he would with any illustrator he works with. Those comments will be sent back to you through SCBWI. Finally, you will create a fully illustrated piece of final art to bring with you on the day of ArtWorks! The group will review all sketches, revised sketches, and final art to explore the process of creating picture book art. You will have the opportunity to display your portfolio and best of all, go home with a great new illustration to showcase.
