40 years ago, conferences and workshops for children’s writers didn’t exist. Just starting
in their careers, Lin Oliver and Steve Mooser were hoping to learn about writing for kids,
so they designed a conference themselves, and gave life to what is now the Society of
Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Thanks to Lin and Steve, SCBWI now operates
on an international scale and offers the best opportunities for professional development in the field of Children’s Literature - by far! We are honored to have Lin and Steve join us.
This year, the Spring Thaw is here to encourage our Illinois clan to Branch Out in all of our written and artistic pursuits. Lin and Steve will share their insights on Writing With Humor and Heart, Keeping Your Middle Grade Characters Fresh and how SCBWI can work for you, it’s a history that’s worth repeating!
A gourmet box lunch, parking and admission to the park are included in your registration
fee… so bring your journals, a sketch pad and a pair of comfortable shoes and make the
most of the venue after the conference. Take a peek at www.mortonarb.org where you’ll
find fragrance gardens, maze gardens and 1,700 acres of woodland to inspire your muse! (Park closes at dusk.)
Registration Opens March 12th and Closes April 30th… and we have an opportunity for
added PRIZES for our early-bird registrants! Those who have their registration
postmarked by April 10th will have the chance to win Admission to the 2012 Prairie
Writers Day, a Free Critique at Prairie Writers Day or a selection of fine books!
