"Finding and Planning Nonfiction Stories Kids Want to Read"
with author Bridget Heos
Bridget's hour-long session will show you how to find a nonfiction story and tackle it in such a way that grownups buy the book and kids love reading it. Her session will walk writers through the early steps of creating nonfiction:
exploring current children's nonfiction
listening to kids (What topics do they like to read?)
getting out in the world
finding the story
determining the audience
deciding whether there's a market
creating the format
determining point of view
Activities will include brainstorming ideas and spotting diamond in the rough stories. These are great stories that happen in real life but almost seem to have been written. Participants will leave the session ready to tackle a nonfiction story or eager to find one.
