Workshop: "Crafting the YA Novel: Word Choice and Voice."
DATE: August 18, 2012
CONTACT: Quinette Cook
CHAPTER: Minnestoa
LOCATION/TIME: Heritage Library, Lakeville, 1-5 p.m.
Join us for an exciting workshop on "Crafting the YA Novel: Word Choice and Voice."
Author Loretta Ellsworth will show us how to capture the teen voice, how something is said is just as important as what is said. We'll look at examples of teen novels and voices, paying particular attention to word choice and diction. We'll talk about how word choice reflects a teen's world views, how it captures not only the teen spirit, but also reflects gender, culture, ethnicity, and a wide range of education and experience.
Feel free to bring the first chapter of your work-in-progress for critique, and we'll also complete short exercises on voice and word choice.
Saturday, August 18, 1-5 p.m.
Heritage Library, 20085 Heritage Drive, Lakeville, MN
Members $25
Non-members $35
Light refreshments will be served.
Registration is at the door (1-2 p.m.). Cash and checks only.
