Two tracks available: Picture book and novel. Novels include chapter books, middle grade novels, and young adult novels.
Format: Lecture and group work.
Speakers: Picture book writers and novelists will meet together as one group for some speaker presentations, however, when the group splits into tracks :
Alexandra Penfold, Editor, Paula Wiseman Books, A Division of Simon and Schuster. Her focus will be with picture book writers.
Andrew Harwell, Editor, Harper Collins. His focus will be with novelists.
Manuscript exchange: Attendees will be divided into groups of 3 or 4 and exchange manuscripts through the mail by September 1st. You will be notified of the names and addresses of your critique partners. You will bring your critiques of your group's manuscripts to the retreat.
Novel writers will send a full draft of their novel. Picture book writers may send from one to three manuscripts, either fiction or non-fiction.
Cost: The price will be around $250 depending on how many are enrolled. The amount may be paid in three payments, one due now, one by August 1st and the one before the retreat. No refunds will be given unless a replacement for your spot is found.
The price includes: two nights lodging (two people to a room), six meals, speaking fees, transportation and lodging for two speakers, face-toface critiques (additional $35 fee)
Manuscript critiques: Speakers will do face-to-face critiques of ten novel pages or one picture book manuscript for fifteen people who pay an extra $35.
