Sherry Ficklin and Tyler Jolley's YA steampunk novel EXTRACTED (The Lost Imperials, Book 1), in which two siblings, unknowingly stolen from history, fight on opposing sides of a battle to control time and space, was sold to Kate Kaynak at Spencer Hill Press, in a nice deal, for publication in November 2013.
Twice each month Diane Kress Hower is sharing Colorado authors and illustrator's books on TV with KKCO, News 11, Morning Show Book Talks and Blog review. Nancy Lee Mervar published her second book, Bully Goat to the Rescue, with the help of third to fifth grade students in local schools. During the last month, Dr. Mervar re-visited each of these schools so that students could see their finished product and recognize the value of the revision process.
Karla Oceanak’s book EGGHEAD, the 5th title in the alphabetical Aldo Zelnick Comic Novel Series, was published in May by Bailiwick Press. The series’ DIY art-o-biography journal, also by Oceanak, publishes in June.
Nancy Oswald’s middle grade historical fiction novel, RESCUE IN POVERTY GULCH, received First Place for the EVVY Awards sponsored the Colorado Independent Publisher’s Association (CIPA). The same book received a Spur Finalist Award from Western Writers of America, and has been nominated for a Colorado Book Award. Filter Press Books, 2011.
Jean Reidy's picture book LIGHT UP THE NIGHT illustrated by Caldecott Honor artist Margaret Chodos-Irvine (Disney Hyperion, 2011) was selected as afinalist for the Colorado Book Award, The Crystal Kite Member Choice Award and The Colorado Authors' League Award.
THE QUEEN OF WATER (Delacorte, 2011), by Laura Resau and Maria Virginia Farinango, won the Americas Award Honorable Mention for a work that authentically and engagingly portrays Latin America. Amy Kathleen Ryan is delighted to announce that book two in her SKY CHASERS series, SPARK, will be released July 17, 2012 by St. Martin's Press. Early ARC reviews agree that SPARK outshines GLOW, the first book, which was chosen by SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL as a Best Book of 2011.
Todd Tuell has recently relaunched his book blog at www.Books4Boyz.org. The site offers thoughts and resources to help parents and educators of and writers for boys to encourage young men to become avid, life-long readers. Included in the postings are podcast interviews with authors, publishers and educators including Bruce Coville, Adam Rex, Todd Mitchell and Denise Vega.
