Telling Your Story: How to
Talk to Reporters with Confidence & Credibility
Faculty: Mimi Bliss, Bliss Communications
Open to PAL SCBWI members only. Limited to 25 attendees.
Working with the news media is a powerful tool to promote your children’s book. Whether you are writing an email “pitch” to an editor or talking on TV, you need to communicate with confidence and credibility.
Led by Mimi Bliss (mimibliss.com), an experienced TV reporter and media trainer, this half-day media training session will prepare children’s book writers and illustrators to work with the news media. You will learn how to:
· Understand how reporters do their jobs.
· Develop a newsworthy story angle about your book.
· Develop clear and concise “sound bites” for media
interviews.
· Reduce the chances of being misquoted or taken
out-of-context.
· Speak with confidence on TV and video.
This workshop will be highly interactive and include on-camera interviews with a small number of volunteers from the audience. Attendees will receive handouts with information about working with the media, a template for preparing for media interviews, and wallet cards with tips for media interviews.
Late registration (at a fee of $60) began March 1st. This event is only open to SCBWI PAL (Published & Listed) members.
