What Makes a Good "Boy Book" and Why Should We Care?
Speaker: Andy Sherrod
Too often boys who are labeled reluctant readers would read more if they found books more interesting. On March 24, boy book expert Andy Sherrod will present a seminar on five literary components of a good boy book from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gander Lodge meeting room at Gander Mountain, 2301 Earl Rudder Freeway South in College Station.
Attendees will learn to evaluate the many good books available to children and identify those that are most likely to spark the interest of boys who know how to read but don’t. Sherrod speaks to audiences state wide about how to objectively identify a good boy book and the importance of encouraging boys toward active literacy.
This free event is open to the public. Bring your own lunch.
Reservations are required by March 20. Contact SCBWI regional advisor Liz Mertz at lizbmertz+scbwi@gmail.com.
