“From Inspiration to Publication to Presentation” with author/illustrator Dan Yaccarino (from 9-4 with a lunchbreak)

A picture book isn’t just drawings depicting text, but images and words uniquely intertwined to create a story. In this presentation Dan will teach the fundamentals of picture books, from format, character development to basic storytelling.
Dan will also share his experiences visiting dozens of schools, libraries and professional conferences and tips on how he continues to inspire young and old with his presentations on his books, animation and his 25-year career. You will leave knowing two critical elements of writing and illustration for young people – the essentials of a picture book dummy and the fundamentals of creating a successful live presentation.
Award-winning author/illustrator Dan Yaccarino has sold more than 1.5 million of his books including Every Friday, The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau, All the Way to America and Good Night Mr. Night. He also created favorite television programs Emmy-winning Willa’s Wild Life, Parent’s Choice Award-willing Oswald and The Backyardigans. Dan’s work has been recognized with a host of prestigious awards including the the Bologna Ragazzi, The New York Time 10 Best Illustrated, ALA Notable and the Parents Choice Award. Dan lives with his wife and their two children in New York City and creates his quirky characters in his studio full of vintage toys.
