Author Carmen Tafolla to Be Celebrated in San Antonio Feb 24
From San Antonio's Department of Culture and Creative Development:
" Poemas y Musica: Celebrating Carmen Tafolla
The Composers Alliance of San Antonio announces a Gala Concert on Sunday, February 24th, to celebrate the work of Carmen Tafolla, appointed by Mayor Julian Castro as San Antonio’s First Poet Laureate.
The Concert will be at Trinity University’s Ruth Taylor Recital Hall at 3 PM, and will feature the original music by members of CASA, an organization of professional composers residing in the San Antonio area. All music on the concert will feature settings of Dr. Tafolla’s poetry prepared over the last few months specifically for the occasion, and thus all will be world premieres.
Dr. Tafolla will recite the poems before the musical settings are performed. Both professional and amateur musicians will participate, including children and young people from local schools."

Does Medicare cover this?” Or a lady at a store waves a circular in your face wanting to know, “Where are the specials for pork chops?”
I experienced all of the above when my first picture book was published. My most memorable signing, however, happened at an Herb Festival. As a new author, I was eager to do a reading anywhere and accepted the invitation with an immediate “yes.” Herb festival? What was I thinking? When I arrived, I headed for the tent with the big sign, “Author Reading/Signing.” Impressive, I thought." ...
