at Illustrator Coordinator Kris McLeod's home in Davis. The evening will feature:
* An inspirational talk by Newbery Honor author GENNIFER CHOLDENKO
titled The Secret Lives of Children's Authors
in which she discusses the raw power of dreams; how one rejection letter helped her win the Newbery Honor; things that helped her get published; and what she does not to improve her craft.
* Appetizers/dessert pot-luck (please bring your favorite dish to serve 6).
* Spring Spirit 2013 logo announcement and conference preview.
* Plenty of time to schmooze with fellow authors and illustrators.
Admission is FREE and includes a signed copy
of one of Gennifer's titles.

first novel, Notes From a Liar and Her Dog, was a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year and a California Book Award winner. Her second novel, Al Capone oes My Shirts, was a Newbery Honor Book and a School Library Journal, Kirkus, and Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year. Al Capone Does My Shirts was short-listed for the Carnegie in the United Kingdom and has been on the New York Times, Booksense, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. Al Capone Shines My Shoes--a sequel to the beloved Al Capone Does My Shirts--is a Kirkus, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Chicago Public Library Best of the Best for 2009. Together, the first two Al Capone books have sold more and 1,000,000 copies. Gennifer has just finihed the last book in the trilogy: Al Capone Does My Homework, due out in 2013. She has written numerous other picture books and novels.
