We are excited to invite both picture book illustrators and writers to participate in our June 8th workshop Creating a Picture Book Storyboard, with Jim Hoover, Associate Art Director for Viking Children's Books. A storyboard is made up of a series of small sketches, representing the pages of a book, that provide a visual overview of the entire book. It's one of the important initial steps in creating a successful picture book, and is a valuable skill for both illustrators and writers.
Illustrators will have the opportunity to work with a professional art director to create a 32 page storyboard. Their storyboard will be sent to Jim for review prior to the workshop, comments returned, and final storyboards shared the day of the workshop. Illustrators are also welcome to bring additional art such as character sketches, cover designs, or final art.
Writers will have the opportunity to spend a day learning about the process and importance of storyboarding. They will discover how to look at a story visually, like editors and art directors do, which is sure to be helpful in creating a fabulous picture book.
The registration form is at http://www.scbwi.org/Regional-Chapters.aspx?R=51&sec=News&g=1153.
