Illustrator Masterclass - Producing Outstanding Art Samples for Submission

DATE: June 29, 2013
CONTACT: Anne-Marie Perks
LOCATION/TIME: 1pm to 5pm, St George’s Church, Bloomsbury, London

In this masterclass we will be working with an art director and designer from a children’s book publisher. Pre-workshop work is necessary. The art director will provide text featuring human, animal or conceptual characters and approaches to the illustrator. This means that several illustrators may well be working on the same text. Don’t worry about this as every illustrator will shine with their own interpretation and approach. Participating illustrators will need to submit roughs on their character designs and proposed spreads for initial feedback from the art director and designer. The masterclass itself will feature presentation of final art samples showing how the initial feedback was applied. There will be time dedicated to discussing final outcomes of art samples brought in by participating illustrators and looking at samples that caught our art director’s eye and finding out why they stood out. If you’ve wondered what makes an outstanding art submission, this is the masterclass for you.

You can find the 2013 Illustrator Series Booking Form on our Illustrator Series events page at: http://britishscbwi.jimdo.com/events/illustrator-series

The Illustrator Masterclass Series are hands on workshops for illustrators (and sometimes writers), published and unpublished that focus on art technique, professional issues in children's publishing, marketing and presentation skills and inspiration on the 'craft' of visual storytelling. As some of us are writers too, issues on writing and illustrating are addressed. It's also a great place to meet other illustrators and share news, get support and receive important feedback to help your career. We are continuing to offer four exciting Illustrator Masterclass workshops designed to move our illustration skills to the next level. Sign up for all four and receive a discount! Meeting Time - 13:00 to 17:00.

Prices are: £20 a session for members (SCBWI, SOA and AOI)

£25 for non-members, £15 for students (must send proof of full time enrollment at university).

£70 for members (SCBWI, SOA and AOI) and £85 for non-members.
