We're excited to announce that illustrator and designer David Dean will be talking with the talent Eleanor Updale about the story behind the amazing Johnny Swanson book cover. David Dean works extensively for David Fickling books and was featured in the AOI's annual Images 35 for his cover designs for Johnny Swanson by Eleanor Updale and Tall Story by Candy Gourlay. Eleanor Update's latest book Johnny Swanson was published by David Fickling. It's set in 1929, when the First World War had been over for a decade, but the scars still showed. Johnny is a boy who tries to do his best, but accidentally plunges into a world of deceit and murder that threatens everything - even his mother's life.
Few people will deny that the cover of a book has a large impact on its success. But what goes into the design of a book cover? Come along and find out more!
