Join us for an exciting professional series event exploring the world of promotion and what goes into making sure a title is launched with a splash!
Three shortlisted and award-winning publicist will be joining us to discuss the secrets of promoting children’s books, revealing how the big publishers get both parents and children excited about new titles, keeping older titles from fading away and how to have success with both small and large promotional ideas and budgets! They're also planning on talking about maximising the relationship between author/illustrator and publicist and what the author/illustrator can do make the most of their publicist!
Our Speakers are:
Nina Douglas, Publicity Manager at Orion Children's Books/Indigo. Before that she was Senior Publicity Manager for Random House Children's Books. Nina won the 2011 PPC (Publisher’s Publicity Circle) Award for a Children’s Book for Annabel Pitcher’s My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece.
Ian Lamb, Head of Children's Publicity at Bloomsbury Publishing. He has been shortlisted for 2012 PPC Award for best publicity campaign for a children's book (Harry Potter: Vote for your Favourite Character) and a Winner of 2006 PPC Award for best publicity campaign for a children's book (HIVE by Mark Walden and the BigBadRead).
Sally Oliphant, Publicity Manager at Macmillan Children's Books. She looks after the Kingfisher and Campbell lists as well as picture book authors including Rod Campbell. She was shortlisted for a PPC Awards in 2010 for the Nielsen Book Award for a Children’s Book with her campaign for Angel by L.A. Weatherly.
Our Professional Series in London provides a wonderful opportunity to socialise with other people from the children's book world and gain vital information to improve your work.
A bar will be available for attendees to purchase drinks. All meetings start at 7 p.m. and conclude at 9 p.m. The talk is from 7.15pm for about an hour. Then there is time for networking until the bar closes! You can sit upstairs from
6.00pm if you want to eat first, but please make sure you have finished eating by 7pm.
The cost is £10 per meeting, £15 for non-members OR £45 if you sign up for all six, £60 for non-members.
