Our 5th annual SCBWI British Isles conference for writers and illustrators is open for bookings until November 9th! We have keynote sessions with the amazing CELIA REES (award-winning author of over twenty books for young adults) and the brilliant DEBI GLIORI, (best-selling author and illustrator of heart-warming and beautiful picture books). Find out more at: http://scbwicon.jimdo.com/
NEW this year, we’re introducing Sunday day-long INTENSIVES that allow you to focus on one particular aspect of your craft or career, from creating a brand and taking part in school visits, building characters that step off the page, creating polished plots, infusing artwork with emotion, creating breakout picture books, and the art of getting published. Intensive tutors include Debi Gliori, Justin Somper, Steve Hartley, Beverley Birch, Nancy Miles, Graham Marks, Julia Bell and Sara Grant.
Other highlights include: the popular INDUSTRY PANEL where Editors and Art Directors reveal all!; a Transmedia and Storytelling session; inside Graphic Novels; the STATE OF THE NATION PANEL where industry experts will consider whether authors can truly achieve longevity in today’s market; 1-2-1 Manuscript And Portfolio Reviews; the optional Friday Night Critique Meeting; a local Network meet up; and the chance to meet agents and editors at the Saturday Night Party and Mass Book Launch.
Plus, there’s the illustrator showcase, the scholarship for writers and illustrators, lots of competitions and raffles, and a pre-conference sketch and scrawl-crawl. Details of the Margaret Carey Confernce Scholarship can be found here: http://scbwicon.jimdo.com/scholarships/.
The conference is from November 24th to 25th 2012 at the University of Winchester with Fringe events starting on Friday 23rd November. The Saturday Night Party is in a new venue this year – the Winchester Guildhall. We’ve tried to keep the price as low as possible, but a small rise has been inevitable. Admission for this year’s conference is £198 for SCBWI members. However, the cost of 1-2-1 reviews remains at £30 for SCBWI members. Booking deadline for Manuscript Reviews is 28th September.
