The Blueboard has changed!

Its new look is due to the installation of a fully responsive theme. You will find that the Blueboard will now automatically change sizes according to the computer or device you are using for access. You should no longer need to scroll from side to side, trying to read what is on your screen. Your Blueboard Management Team and SCBWI’s tech team have been working hard for many months to make this changeover as smooth as possible for everyone on the board.

I’m sure many of you will have some questions about this new theme, and we will try to answer your questions here, in this thread, as quickly as possible,  to help your transition to this new theme be as painless as it can be.

Some questions we anticipate you will have immediately are:

Where are the Unread Posts buttons?
What happened to my profile?
Where is my Private Message center?
How do I log off?

You will find all of these things that used to be in the menu at the top of the Blueboard under your Name on the right-hand side of the board. Just click on your name to access all of these areas and/or features of the board.

Something you may notice right away is that you no longer have to scroll down to the bottom of the board to access the Forum Stats, see the list of members currently on line, or to see the most recent posts on the board. These items are now in a sidebar on the right-hand side of your screen. (They may be in a different spot on a phone screen.)

We have tried to keep the colors of boards as close to the old ones as possible. SCBWI Only areas are still green boards, SCBWI PAL boards are still purple, open areas of the board are still blue, etc. You will most likely notice right away that the color of the Registered Members Only area of the board has changed to a different blue - aqua. This will alert you when you are posting that you are in a more secure area of the board – only registered members of the board can see these areas, unlike the regular blue boards, which are open for viewing by  everyone on the internet.

Thank you, Everyone, for your patience and understanding as we all work through this important change for our wonderful Blueboard.

Here are some more tips for you:

If there is a section of the boards that you NEVER look at and NEVER want to see, click on the ^ arrow in the menu of that board and it will collapse, so next time you come to the board you won't have to scroll past all of those boards - just the category header. If you decide at some point that you want to see what you are missing, click on the ^ again and the boards will all return for your perusal.

If you are suddenly getting notifications about posts on the board and don't want to get them, go into your Profile (under your name in the menu on the board) then go to Modify Profile,  Account Settings, click Notifications and unclick Turn Notification On When You Post Or Reply To A Topic. That should stop the notifications.

Under "Modify Profile" I was able to change the "look and layout" of the board to resemble the previous board, but only on my desktop where there is a box right above the "smiley set" viewing option. On my laptop that option doesn't appear.

Or is there something I'm missing?

You shouldn't be able to change the theme. :poke The old theme will soon be removed from the board and if anyone is on it when it is removed, that could be a real problem!  If anyone is still seeing their name up on the top left of the board with, "Hello, <your board name here>," then let us know IMMEDIATELY so we can correct the problem! Your name should be on the upper RIGHT hand side of the board in the menu.

Is our profile pic and signature, with a lot of white space around and below it, supposed to be centered and at the top of the comment box?

Ha! When we were "testing" I changed mine!  :hiding Anyway, now the option isn't there on my desktop and my theme is back to the board default, so all is good.  :flowers2

Dionna, that is part of the resizing feature. If your window is full screen on a laptop or desktop, your avatar should be on the left as usual. When the screen is reduced, the avatar moves to the center.

We know it will take a little time to get used to this new look, Ann, but with so many people accessing the web from tablets and phones these days, we really needed to have our wonderful Blueboard using a theme that would be fully responsive to accommodate those kinds of devices.

The entire Blueboard Management Team has been working non-stop for the better part of a year now to find, test and work the bugs out of this new theme. At first it did NOT want to play nicely with SCBWI's database, but SCBWI's Tech Guy, (:thankyou, Josh!) worked tirelessly with the original developer of the theme to mold it into something that not only "plays nicely" with SCBWI's database, but that also has as much of the look and feel of our old theme as possible.

Some things, of course are different, but we have tried very hard to make sure that many of the features and look of the board that are the most important and useful to everyone have been retained and are still available on this new "Nebula" theme.

Oh, I'm sure I'll get used to it, Verla. It looks great. As I said, I'm just a little slow. I don't even have a smartphone!  ;D

Dionna, that happened to me last night on my laptop screen. I'd somehow resized the typeface. When I bumped down the size, the layout reverted to normal (avatars to the left).

Today I had to bump down the size again, not because the avatars were in the middle, but because regular text was coming across like 14 pt and wasting screen real estate. Hasn't been a problem the rest of the day and I've been in and out, but haven't changed browsers or rebooted, so I don't know if this will be an ongoing issue.

Barb, you can find it under Forum Profile/Show Stats. Would be nice to not have to "dig" for it, though.

I deleted an entire board that was never used anymore. It had problems and questions about the original merger and no one had posted in it for at least a year. We no longer needed that board... so I dumped it when we made our change. It should only have affected the post counts of Administrators and Moderators.

Thanks, Dionna. It was definitely a huge collaborative effort by your entire Blueboard Management Team and SCBWI's Tech guy, Josh. Many, many hours have been spent testing and improving the theme to get it where it is today. And we are all very proud of how well the transition went AND how encouraging and understanding all of YOU have been in accepting this important change. We truly believe it improves this board for everyone.

Click on your screen name at the very right of the navy blue bar at the top of the page. Not intuitive, I know. The Powers That Be are trying to see if it can be moved somewhere visible.
