What are you interested in? Picture books, chapter books, middle grade, YA? For picture books, I love Susanna Hill's Making Picture Book Magic. https://susannahill.com/for-writers/making-picture-book-magic/

I've found excellent YA/MG courses through local universities (many available online).

Not a recommendation, but you might want to look through the list of online classes on my blog:
http://vonnacarter.com/wordpress/online-writing-workshops/
There is a great variety here and the list is sortable by age group.

Lily, I recommend ICL because there's really nothing else like it out there. I loved best the one-on-one approach along with the flexibility. Here's one thread on it: http://www.scbwi.org/boards/index.php?topic=44109.msg570756#msg570756

Thanks, Vijaya.
Do you know if all of ICL's courses can be taken online?  Or do some of them need to be taken in person?  Please let me know.  Thanks!

You're welcome Lily. All the courses are online at ICL. Your community college might offer classes in person; that's how I got started and formed my critique group. Good luck!

Highly recommend ICL, too. I've taken both of their magazine courses and I'm currently taking their book course.  In lesson 1, you can choose to write 3 short books (picture book or short chapter book) or 1 novel for the remainder of the course.  I chose the picture book route and have gotten very detailed feedback on each of my assignments. My instructor is a well-known editor and really fabulous.

It will take me about 2 years to complete this class, but that's because I'm a slow writer.  I'm currently revising book 2. At the end, I will have 3 polished manuscripts ready to submit.

I'm seriously considering taking the class again when I start my MG novel (even though I already have the class notes for that)!

I also highly recommend ICL. It is where I got my start and also how I found SCBWI.
Another one I took is  How to Write a Middle Grade Novel in a Month by Nancy Sanders.
My novel took more than a month, but her course is really good and reasonably priced. I learned so much from her.

Hmm.  While I've never met her in person, I'm friends with Nancy Sanders on Facebook.
Is "How to Write a Middle Grade Novel in a Month" an online course or a book?
I'm getting lots of recommendations for ICL.  I will need to check that out.
Thanks!

I finished a class for picture book writing with the Children's Book Academy and I've learned so much. The class runs 5 weeks and they are set on several platforms with a weekly live webinar for critiques by professionals. The most helpful for me is also having a dedicated peer critique group to bounce ideas and offer suggestions.  Our critique group is still active even after the course is over.

I was surprised how the students are from all over the world. I also took a self-paced course for Chapter Books prior to taking the class for PB and I'm checking out their PB illustration course, too, since I've learned so much. I highly recommend CBA.

Thank you for the recommendations, you guys.  They all sound great.
Can anybody recommend a site that offers courses in writing children's books as well as other types of writing?

Gotham Writers. I've never taken a course from them, but I've heard great things.

There are a bunch of awesome recommendations here. Joyce Sweeney's classes are amazing and focus on other genres as well as children's books. She has online classes that have a forum with lots of feedback and some on-demand (no feedback or forum), plus webinars as well.
