Poof!  You can spend some time at home in the laundry hamper.

I wish I didn't have to go to bed now.

You don't have to go to bed, but now you have to clean the house, pay the bills, go to the grocery store, try to find cheap gas, go to the dentist, and write a novel for you and another for me.

I wish I was better at this game.

You're amazing at this game.  You are SO GOOD that you write a book about it and make lots and lots of money.  Unfortunately, Jeff and Cass get wind of it, sue you for stealing their idea, and you end up bankrupt and maligned as a plagiarist.

You can snap your fingers and all your chores are done...Unfortunately the tribe of evil mutant trolls that come in to do them form themselves a union and decide to hold a boycott protesting their pay rate in your living room. This forces you to use all your newfound spare time watching Jerry Springer re-runs with them.

I wish I didn't have to go to another family function at my mother-in-law's this weekend.

You are playing 18 holes today... in DEATH VALLEY.  Enjoy the heat!

You do decide which writing project to focus on and it is the most amazing thing you've ever written.  You send out queries and tons of editors jump at the chance to read the full.  Then your computer crashes and you lose everything except one hard copy, which your dog grabs out of your hands and rips to shreds.

Chris didn't get voted off American Idol last night. You've been in a coma for a year and it happened 364 nights ago.

Meet Svlenlanka, your maid who doesn't speak a lick of English.  She misinterprets your demonstrative request to vacuum the floors for sucking your house clean.  Now it's clean of everything!

Forget about the doctor ... your insurance company tweaked your coverage just a bit and the only doctors on your plan these days are in Njardvik, Iceland, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I wish I didn't have to commute so far to get to work.

Poof!  Your office is next door to your home.  It is convenient for your boss as well, who constantly knocks on your home door and asks you to sign this and fax that--day and night 24/7.

Poof!  Your headache is gone.  But now you have itchy hives covering your body, your eyes are swollen shut and your feet are so swollen you can't walk.

I wish that everyone will have a happy Mother's Day.

We all have a perfect Mother's Day. The husband and kids clean, prepare the meals, and shower us with roses and ruffles. The next day, we are stricken with food poisoning from the seafood dinner the kids created and spend all week in the bathroom...

I wish my mother would stop calling me to complain about my sisters.

Ta-da! Your mother has stopped calling you to complain about your sisters because your sisters have decided to gang up on you and convince your mom that you're the one who is a pain in the neck and now they're all talking behind *your* back.

I wish my son didn't have boring, middle school band concert tonight.

Boring?  You wish.  Your son goes to a school for the scientifically gifted, and they've reconstituted -- Jurassic Park-style -- Jimi Hendrix, Paganini and Liberace for tonight's special three-man performance of The Who's rock opera, "Tommy."  Buy earplugs, because it's going to be loud.

I wish I hadn't wasted the entire day doing busy work.

Poof!  You haven't wasted the entire day *doing* busywork.  You have wasted the entire day writing the word "busywork" on all the ceilings of your house with a magenta crayon.

I wish my kid hadn't just unrolled a roll of toilet paper into the toilet.  Seriously. :toilet

Poof!  Your kid was only dipping the toilet paper into the toilet he had previously filled with flour to make a paper mache paste.  Now there's a three foot sculpture blocking your way into the bathroom and your kid's asking where you keep the bright purple paint.

I wish I had heard from my agent today.

Viola! Now you can -- except that all 10 are being held the same day, and you can only stay at each one for a few minutes if you want to cram them all in.

I wish I could get a total image makeover.

Poof!  You took the dirty dishes out of the sink and just put them back in the pantry.  Have fun eating your next meal.

I wish there were more hours in the day.

Tut tut! You've got more hours -- in fact, every day that passes, another extra hour is added to the day, and you have to spend them watching reruns of "Murder She Wrote." Enjoy your slow descent into madness.

Margherita, you just won 3 million in the lottery! Congrats! You're now the most popular person on the planet.

Wow, I'll bet you didn't know you had so many relatives and long-lost friends, or that there were so many needy charities and good causes--all telephoning you day and night, asking you for handouts. You get an unlisted number, but by then it's too late because your name and photo were plastered all over the front page of every newspaper. Now they're coming to your front door. You can't even leave the house to go grocery shopping without being hounded for money...

I wish I had a great, legitimate literary agent to represent my book and who was enthusiastic about my writing.

Poof!  YOu have the nicest, most attentive agent in the world.  She calls you all the time, asking about your progress, and she emails you every day telling you that she loves this chapter and that character and that style.  Then she sells your book to a publisher--with her name on it.

Poof!  Sugar-free, fat free foods do taste better.  They taste better than fried liver and onions.  They taste better than sour milk.  They taste better than toasted roaches.

VOILA!

It is Mother's Day every Sunday -- and you must eat burnt toast, cold coffee, runny eggs and raw bacon -- with a smile on your face.

Oh yeah - and every Monday you have to clean up the mess left by your loved ones who worked so hard to show you how much they appreciate you.

I wish I could get past my writer's block.
