Welcome to the new chat board for children's writers and illustrators.  Feel free to post questions and comments pertaining to the craft of writing and illustrating on the appropriate boards.  Other discussions should be posted onto the Fun Stuff Board.  Be sure to post your achievements on the Good News Board.  And above all, play nice, and have fun!

"Play nice." What a fun way to address all of the 'kids at heart.' Thanks, Verla, for the board. I look forward to participating in the community.

Thanks for the board, Verla. My yella withdrawals have been fierce. I'm grateful for a new posting place.

Hi Verla,

What a wonderful website.  :) (Just read your message on the NORCA list about it) Are you enjoying life in Oregon now? All settled in? It was great meeting you at the SCBWI conference a while ago. Wish you were still in CA!

Thanks, Lori.  Glad you like the website and welcome to this new Board. I enjoyed meeting you, too.  It's such fun to get to know people in person.  Especially other people who love the same things you do (ie books for kids.)

Heh heh... I'm not in Oregon, though.  I'm in Washington.  One more state up.  And yes, I'm loving it here, although I'll love it more when we get into our new house (in about a year.)

Meantime, we're working on the new house renovating it, and enjoying being near our daughter and grandkids tremendously!

Hello, everyone.

I'm new to this list, although I have been writing for some time, and I read the CW list regularly.  I love writing for young children, and I especially love writing in rhyme.  I look forward to learning lots from this community!

Hi Verla (and everyone)!

I'm very much a newbie to message boards, but had to register here.  It looks like so much fun!  And it gets so lonely writing in my office with nothing but a cat on my desk, chihuahua on my chair and heeler at my heels.

Verla, we met in Rio Rico last year, at a school visit.  I'm sure you're keeping busy as ever and appreciate the time you put into this fun board.  Thank you   :).

I'm Jennifer.  Fairly new to writing.  A few books out (picture books) and everything I have under contract is in rhyme (ack!) - don't mean for it to happen that way, but it does.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here.

Hooray for books-

Jen, I took a look at your web page.  I just wanted to say that my three and a half year old would probably happily ignore cupcakes, snub puppies, and knock other children down to get to your books--they look like they'd be right up her alley!  Particularly the ocean one--I'm definitely going to look for a copy for her!

Also, has anyone ever told you that you look a tiny bit like Bruce Willis?

Jaina-

That is just the sweetest thing to say (about my books, not my looks ;)   Has my mom been talking to you???  They are fun books, thanks to Ken Spengler's art.  Kids LOOOOVE looking for the hidden number on each page.

Three year old's are so much fun.  Seems as if my daughter was just three, but somehow she turns eleven this month?  Hmph!  Enjoy every moment, Jaina.

Hey, Hi, Jen!   How fun to "see" you again here.

(And just for the record... I DID get my laser pen back from the boy who "borrowed it" at the school in Rio Rico. Arizona.  As soon as they talked to the boy about it, he returned it.)

So glad to have you "aboard" this message board!   ;D

Me, too.  I do autographed book plates, also.  And thanks for getting one of my books, too.  I hope you and your daughter have many happy hours with it.

Hi, Cassandra!

I got the message!  However, to reply, it goes back to this board (I think...)

Would you like to email me directly?  If so, please feel free.
(I'm still trying to figure out all of the wonderful bells and whistles of this wonderfully fun board).  Look forward to hearing from you!

Jen, I will never stay in your guest room. Never, no way, not in this or any other lifetime thank you very much. Maybe the garage but I suspect those multi-legged critters do not discriminate.  :eek5: Enjoy Arizona, I'm staying here in the east.

Hello Everyone.

I just joined this list today and look forward to meeting all of you. It looks like a lot of fun with all these faces smiling and winking and blinking at me.  Will have to learn how to use them. Also, I enjoy talking to other writers, seeing what you're doing, and finding great books to buy for my grandkids. (And read for myself, of course.)

This is my first time in a chat room in many years, I hope I'm doing this right.  I recently became a stay at home mom to raise my 5 children (aged 10 and under).  I have rekindled my love for writing and actually find time to create.  I have several children's easy readers pieces finished.  I need some help.  Even with all the books I have read on getting my work published I am unsure where to turn.  Does anyone have any tips...I would be very, very grateful! :typing:

Hello

I'm kind of new to the site.  I've lurked around here a few times.  I wasn't sure where exactly to post this introduction.  So I thought I would do it here.

Well my name is Andrea and I'm 21 years old.  I'm originally from Texas but currently living in Oklahoma.  I write mostly contemporary young adult (15-18 years) short stories. I've been published a few times at Runesmag.com.

I'm currently the moderator of the children/young adult critique group at writerbuddy.com.  It's called Inspiration Cafe and the link for our homepage is in my sig.  This site looks pretty friendly.  I look forward to meeting y'all.
