Antonym for Swoosh
« on: February 02, 2011, 10:33 AM »
I'm working on a picture book manuscript and having trouble coming up with just the right word for one scene. My MC is going down the slide in her backyard. Since she's upset at the moment, I'm trying to find a less happy version or slower version of swooshed or slid. I'm currently using scooted to fill the empty space, but I'm still not 100% satisfied. Any suggestions?

not knowing the tone of the ms, I'm liking either J. Ro's scootched (if it's light and humorous) and 217mom's inched (if it's more serious).

I flumped down the slide.
Still fast, but less happy.

Oooh...so many choices! Thank you so much for all the great suggestions!   :thankyou

I'm going to play around with these and try reading the text aloud to see which one might fit best. Thanks again!

I was going to say slithered or flopped, but I really like slumped which someone else suggested.

Good luck!

Squeaked? If the character is wearing shorts... Toppled if it's very ungraceful. Interesting question!
