Courses in Aus
« on: March 26, 2012, 03:48 AM »
I'm taking the Picturebook unit of the Professional Writing offered at Vic Uni online and I have to read and analyse 50 picturebooks in 8 weeks!

It's been interesting so far, sitting down and really figuring out what makes a picturebook work... but it's week 6 and I'm only up to 22!

Mwahsies!

I did that exact same course and loved it. I can't recall having to analyse so many books - maybe I have blocked out the experience! - but I think it gets easier the more you do, as you recognise similar themes, stories, patterns and devices. I hope you are finding it lots of fun, despite the hard work. Best wishes!

Thanks.

I thought I knew a lot about picturebooks. I'd certainly read a lot and knew the good stuff, but when someone forces me to sit down and look at individual parts of a picturebook and formulate responses to them, I figure out two things: I don't know everything, and I know a whole pile of stuff I didn't know I knew.

Which is... interesting.
