As a kid I used to wish I was a Brit! I wanted an accent sooooo bad.

Oh me too! I'm sure, for many of us, the desire for an accent started with the "Beatles" but I was just a bit young for that. My "british accent wishing" started with Davy Jones... sigh.... R.I.P. D.J.

Franzilla, of course you can be an honorary Canadian. (We are very polite, we could never say no, that's just the way we roll here :0)

I offer elocution lessons via Skype. For just £5 you can learn to say war-tur rather than wahda, plaahnts rather than plehnts and so on and so forth. All very proper! He he.

Not sure my phonetic spelling does any accent justice, but I tried!

Ooo, snazzy! I would also settle for honorary Brit status. Good idea, Arty.

Hélène, that map is hilarious. Only problem with it I can see is in BC the "Old People" and the "Hippies" are reversed. Trust me, there are more old people on Vancouver Island than hippies. And more hippies in the Kootenays than old people. Heck, the old people in the Kootenays ARE hippies. ::)

I'm married to a Canadian, too! Go us!

I second Rue's changing of the map. Old people on the island and old hippies in the Kootenays. Also could you change the map so there is a little less rain here and a bit more sunshine? Thank you.

I know someone who could be labelled an "old hippie" living on Vancouver island, but if I call him old that makes me...older... Uh, forget it.

Siski, I used to date a Brit, and he drilled how to say Worcestershire sauce into my head...whuster-sher (or as close as my phonetic spelling will allow  :eh2 )...so I'll grant you honorary Canadian status if you'll grant me honorary Brit status??

Deal??

It's a done deal. I'd also quite like to learn 'street' lingo from you. Then I could amuse any street-wise kids I meet with my British-accented street chat. I'm sure they'd find it highly entertaining!

By the way, what happened to the link Hélène posted?

We're in spitting distance practically! Very cool! I'm only about 45 minutes from the border...or if my speed demon DH is driving, a little less.

I'm totally up for teaching you Canadian street, Siski. First lesson, call Toronto "T-Dot."

Somehow missed this thread before!

Name: Megan Crewe

Location: Toronto, ON

My published books are YA, and that's mainly what I write, though I've dabbled in MG.

GTA area authors, if you're not already aware, there's a TorKidLit group that gets together the first Wednesday of every month to hang out and chat.  It's open to all authors and illustrators working on anything from PBs to YA, published or unpublished, and it's always a lot of fun.  If you join the group on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/groups/127433455731/ ) you should get the invites.  Would love to meet more of you!

I've been away from the board for ages, but I have recently returned.

I was born in Montreal, Quebec - lived in Kingston, Ottawa and Hamilton (Ontario) for varying lengths of time, and have now lived in the beautiful (if somewhat wet, dark and soggy) Fraser Valley of British Columbia.
I've had numerous articles published in children's and parenting magazines and my first novel, Delilah, has recently been published.

I write everything from picture books to novels, as well as articles, poems, crafts, puzzles and much much more.

Hi everyone, I'm a Canuck as well.
I'm originally from Alberta, but now make my home on Vancouver Island.  I've been published in magazines, mostly...Highlights, Pockets, Ladybug, Boys' Quest, Skipping Stones, REAL Canadian Kids Mag.   I have a new story on Knowonder! called "Don't Blink." http://www.knowonder.com/2012/09/29/dont-blink/  and a piece coming up in Zamoof

Like Maude, I write most anything for children, but predominately non-fiction articles and stories for early elementary readers.
