Since not everyone is able to make it to an in-person workshop, I've started a list of online children's/young adult writing workshops. http://vonnacarter.com/wordpress/?page_id=9417  :oncomputer

There are many workshops which focus on writing for adults, and you can find a list of those on Preditors and Editors.

Mediabistro also has good YA classes. I recently took one with Nova Ren Suma -- and she mentioned that she would teach it again in the spring. I thought it was great and would consider taking another class with either her and/or mediabistro.

Here are a bunch through the spring: http://www.mediabistro.com/courses/?osea=1&cfkw=YA

Thanks for some more leads. With small kids and a "real" job to hold down, these are my best options for on-going classes!

Oh, Kate, thank you for mentioning mine!

Vonna, I would love it if you added my upcoming class to your list. The next session starts in April!

I took Nova's Mediabistro class this winter and I recommend it wholeheartedly. The workshop really helped me move forward with revisions to my WIP. Nova gave thorough, honest and encouraging critiques and I found the level of writing among the attendees to be excellent.

Five stars, Nova!  :thankyou

Thanks, Vonna! =)

BTW...

One of our fabulous SCBWI FL members offers online workshops too.  Here’s an excerpt from Joyce Sweeney's website and the link for more info:

Joyce offers online classes, writer's workshops, manuscript critiques and personal consultations to writers all across the country.

Thirty eight of the people she's worked with have become published authors.

http://www.joycesweeney.net/

I missed her recent workshop but plan to sign up for the next one.  Joyce is the published author of fourteen young adult books and she’s led tons of workshops and intensives alongside top editors and agents.  She’s also one of the sweetest people in our region!

(And actually, I think the number of people she’s helped get published might be thirty-nine now.)

:wow

Kimberly Lynn, thank you! This is just the sort of thing I want for this list--wonderful instructors offering classes which might be otherwise overlooked. I've added her to the list. :thankyou

This is great, Vonna. You are so kind to share your lists.

One other class source is Writers on the Net at writers.com. I haven't taken any courses from them, but they have a lot to offer.

Thanks so much! Has anyone had a good experience with any? I see Writer's Digest webinars available all the time but am leery of it. I have also heard some Board members talk about Write On Con. Even after visiting that website I could not figure out what it is. It would be good to know what works.

Maryann, there's a thread her somewhere about WriteOnCon; many blue Boarders have participated--I just lurked. Some of the resources I've listed were recommended by our members here. If you scroll up, you may see some. I really enjoyed the two workshops I took with Jill Corcoran's wonderful, but short-lived series.

Thanks, Vonna. I'll be starting the Picture Book Academy course with Mira Reisberg next week. I'm really looking forward to it--it sounds like it will be an inspirational course.

Hi Vonna,
I offer online workshops for budding writers... should I list them here or send you a PM?

If you are thinking about taking an online class, I've got a guest post on Dear Editor today discussing points to consider to help narrow the field.
