I just received a letter from Heather Kauffman, Editor at USKids. She told me Terry Harshamn is no longer with USKids. FYI!

Thanks for sharing, Jody! So should we send manuscripts for all three mags to Heather Kauffman then?

Starfish, I'm not sure about Jack and Jill. Does anyone know if Julia Goodman is still editor there? I'm thinking Heather would be a good bet for Turtle and HD, at least.

Hi,
Has anyone else been waiting awhile to hear back from Humpty Dumpty?
I am going on six months now. Two poems sent mid-March, but now
wondering if maybe they never even got there.

Hi, Nanci! I subbed a poem to Humpty Dumpty in mid-February, but received a rejection in late-May. You may want to send a status query and include the poems. Their submission guidelines say to allow at least three months before sending a status query, and you've waited double that. Good luck!

Hi Stacy,
Thanks! I hadn't thought of sending a SQ, but probably should at this point.
Sorry about your R from them.

Hi,
Wanted to post an update in case anyone
else is waiting to hear from Humpty Dumpty.
I did send a status query mid-September.
I didn't mark the envelope with SQ, though.
Don't know if that is standard to do?
Anyway, now it is another 3 months, and
no peep.
The following week in September, I sent a sub
to Jack and Jill. No peep with that, either.
So, don't fret if you're waiting, too!
I'm guessing they are super busy.

I have something to add: I subbed a story to HD in July and SQd by snail at the beginning of December. Last week, I got an email from Catherine Greis, the new managing editor of HD. She said she's still getting organized (she just started a few weeks ago) and asked me to resubmit.

Hi Sara,
That explains a lot!
I'm so glad you posted,
as I had no idea about the
new managing editor.

Don't know where in the
scheme of things that my
sub may have landed, but
maybe I will receive an
email, too.

There's nothing on the website to give any clues as to whether Catherine is now the managing editor at all three of U.S. Kids Magazines or whether the duties are being split between her, Julia and Heather. Anyone want to call them and report back...?

A friend and I (who's waiting, too) finally
remembered to call yesterday, after the holiday
hustle and bustle ended - and were told that
Catherine Greis is in charge of both Jack and Jill
and Humpty Dumpty.

While at my library today, I looked through the Jan/Feb. issue of Turtle and read that as of March, Turtle was merging with Humpty Dumpty.

Interesting, Cindy. Did they indicate how the focus of the new magazine might be different, or what its name would be?

Thanks for that info, Cindy.
That wasn't mentioned when we called,
and nothing about it on the website
yet.

I got the impression Humpty Dumpty would remain, and Turtle was just getting absorbed by it.

Hi everyone,
I still haven't heard back on two sub's. One to Turtle (October 2013) and one to Jack and Jill (January 2014). Has anyone heard any news as to the reply process since the new change?

I just saw this topic.

The new managing editor of Humpty Dumpty magazine is indeed Catherine Greis. In April she accepted a submission of mine (the acceptance was by email) for their Build-a-Book department. I signed a contract (also sent to me by email) and the story will be published in their July/August 2014 issue.

To TMarie (and anyone else who sent them something in the summer or fall of 2013 and haven't heard back), I would resubmit. That's what I did with this story and a second one, as well. They are holding the other story for consideration in a future issue. I don't know if they will buy it, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Catherine Greis didn't mention Turtle, so I don't know if the two magazines have merged or not. She did say there had been a lot of changes and shifting of positions. I hope this helps.

Just to chime in, I subbed fiction to HD in July of 2013, then sent a status query in early December. Got an email from Catherine Greis apologizing for the delay in response and asking me to resubmit by snail or email. I emailed the story on December 10. So far, no word.

Good luck on your status query and or re-submissions! Hope you both hear good news soon.

I sent a status query for a poem I had submitted to Turtle in late-2013. Catherine Greis emailed a status update within a week of my snail mail status query saying my poem was still under consideration. She did mention that beginning in February Turtle will be combined with Humpty Dumpty and any future submissions for readers age 2-6 should go to Humpty Dumpty.

Thanks for the info, Stacy. I sent a poem to Turtle in April. I happened to be on the USKids website last week and realized Turtle wasn't even listed as a magazine anymore. Based on what you said, I'm hoping they'll consider it for Humpty Dumpty.
