Who publishes iBooks?
« on: October 29, 2013, 03:39 PM »
Hello:

iBooks are interactive books.

Does anyone know who to contact about having iBooks published? Where might I look other than Google? Is there a community for ibook authors, illustrators and publishers sorts of publications?

I see you are a SCBWI member. It might be worth checking out SCBWI's publishing guide - look under the RESOURCE LIBRARY tab at the top of the page (then click on 1st item - "The Book"). Not sure if they have listings for iBooks, but worth a try. Best of luck.

As I understand it, Apple publishes ibooks. E-books, on the other hand, which are simply digital books - with or without interactivity - are published by all sorts of publishers, traditional and otherwise. Some companies that specialise in e-books for children are: Meegenius, Nosy Crow, ITB, Ruckus Media, Utales... I will probably remember more at some point and will update with more info.

ibooks, however, is simply the Apple version of the Nook store, or the Kindle store. It's the Apple branding for their digital books.

PS You can get your book published with ibooks/Apple relatively easily. Well, I say that, you have to fill out some forms and apply and wait for approval. But it's doable!

What Franzilla said.  :yup She's one smart  :cookie.

By interactive, do you mean enhanced? If so, you might want to check out Beneath the Ink, a new digital start-up that offers app-less enhancements for ebooks. http://www.beneaththeink.com/

Great topic, glad you started this thread!

You publish directly to the iBookStore yourself. You first create your book in "iBooks Author" and publish up to the store using "iTunes Producer".

If you need a hand, let me know. I have just started a new site at http://www.popgunpocketbooks.com and am adding iBooks Author tutorials.

Hope that helps.
