Some of you may know that I'm a member of the #WeNeedDiverseBooks team. After launching with a very successful 3-day online campaign, we've accepted an invitation to appear on a panel at BookCon, which you may have heard some tiny shreds of information about in recent weeks.

The panel will include Ellen Oh, Lamar Giles, I.W. Gregorio, Marieke Nijkamp, Aisha Saeed, me, Jacqueline Woodson, Matt de la Pena, and Grace Lin. We'd love to see a crushing mob of Blueboarders there. Here's the Publisher's Weekly announcement:

I'm going too and I'm so excited! I've never been at any writer's event or con but I'll be at BEA that day. I hope to see many of you -- we need some kind of badge or funny hat to recognize each other.

Danette, Kell, we have to say hello in person, even if it's just for a few minutes - I'm flying in late Friday and flying back out right after lunch on Saturday. But I want to see both of you!

Thanks everyone! It should be noted that I am definitely one of the lesser-involved organizers, and that Ellen is a towering inferno of brains, integrity, and raw willpower. She is absolutely the driving force, and I'm lucky that I get to follow her lead and contribute in my relatively small way.

Thank you everyone!! I'm so proud of the response that our campaign has received. There were moments where several members of our team were in tears at the outpouring of support we got and the incredible and poignant responses. Mike is being modest. He worked really hard. The whole team did! It was a crazy amount of work in a short period of time and there's more to come!! I am so glad to hear that people are coming to our panel! Apparently I've already heard snarky remarks about tokenism and that they placed us up against Grisham and Hiaasen so who's gonna come? WEll folks, they actually didn't place us, we asked for the 10AM spot and they gave it to us because we'd rather go up against Grisham and Hiaasen than Veronica Roth, Amy Poehler, Cary Elwes from the Princess Bride and John Green!! Hey we ain't stupid!!! So the more people you tell and the more people who pack our panel, the better it is for diversity in books!! Thanks everyone!
