Illustrator Contest

Contest Guidelines:

1. Entries must be submitted electronically IN THE BODY of an email (NO ATTACHMENTS) to Contest ("contest @ scbwi.org" without the spaces) with WRITER CONTEST as the subject. If you do not use the subject line WRITER CONTEST your email may be deleted by our junk mail filter. Limit one entry per person. Both SCBWI members and non-members are welcome to participate.

2. All writing must be original and created for this contest (i.e., it must not be published or under contract.

3. The SCBWI retains the right to post the winning writing on the Writer Contest main page for one month, at least. After such time, the writing will be moved to our Previous Contests section.

4. The SCBWI will make every attempt to maintain the integrity of the writing and its electronic file, however, the writer agrees to hold the SCBWI and its staff and affiliates harmless from any legal action that may result from the appearance of this writing on our website. This will include, but is not limited to, persons copying the writing from the SCBWI website and using it for other purposes.

5. For FOUR contests following their winning contest, previous prize winners (including Runners-Up) are not eligible for prizes, but may be awarded Honorable Mentions. Previous Honorable Mentions are welcome to keep submitting entries for all contests.

6. The SCBWI reserves the right not to award any prize if entries are not deemed suitable.

	Spring Cleaning. Final Exams. Filing taxes. Life is sometimes full of things we'd rather not do. In 75 words or less, set the scene for a character in your story who faces a task of a less than thrilling nature. It can be wackyor serious--don't use our examples above--come up with your own. Does the character get out of the task? Or line up with the task? How? Is the anticipation worse than the actuality? Entries will be judged on creativity--make us laugh, or cry, or think, or all three--but make it ORIGINAL. Turn the idea of something you'd rather not do on its head. DEADLINE Monday , May 12th 4pm Pacific Time Winners will be posted on Friday, May 16th.
