Steck Setauket, NY member since 2003 RUNNER-UP It was half-time. Sharon waited eagerly for John's first time performing in the marching band. She knew exactly where he stood. "Which one is he?" Susan asked. "He's third from the left in the fourth row." "That doesn't look like John." Panic spread through Sharon. That wasn't John at all. In fact, no one in the band looked like himself. These faces were hollow, and their hands, bones, and their uniforms hung on fleshless bodies. Kathy Steck is new to Setauket, New York, this year, with her husband and two daughters, who inspire many of her picture books. She enjoys yoga, sewing, skiing (if she had the chance), and play time with her kids, AND... writing. She is passionate about finding time to work on her many book ideas. |
