Katalin Szegedi

Katalin Szegedi was born in Budapest in 1963. She graduated from the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts where she majored in Applied Graphic and Book Design, earning her Master of Arts degree in 1991. That same year she began illustrating books in Hungary, where she still lives today with her husband and three children.

In 1994 Katalin was awarded a scholarship to study in Rome for developing her style. In 2001 and 2003 she won Hungary's prestigious "Most Beautiful Children's Book of the Year" prize (the Hungarian equivalent of the Caldecott Medal), awarded from the Association of Hungarian Publishers and Distributors. In 2001 she began creating illustrations for foreign publishers, including Greece, Germany, USA, Korea, and Japan.

The Weight of a Mass: A Tale of Faith
(Gingerbread House, 2002) written by Josephine Nobisso and illustrated by Katalin won the 2003 Excellence in Design and Production Award from The Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada.
