• Hi there!

I’m C.S. Jennings. I live in Austin, Texas. Creativity, design, storytelling, collaboration—these are the things that get me excited.

I draw lots of stuff. I do a ton of illustration for the children’s markets, but I go wherever my pencil will take me. Publishing, gaming, editorial, advertising, entertainment, commercial, apparel, apps, greeting cards—yep, I’ve pretty much done everything that has to do with drawing. (I was an animation lead for Richard Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly. That’s still one of my favorite things I’ve done.)

I wrote Hello, Texas! (Sterling Publishing). I was the author-illustrator of the picture book Animal Band (also Sterling Publishing). As an illustrator I’ve drawn books for Penguin Group Books, Scholastic, Stone Arch Books, and Sterling Publishing. I love collaborating with art directors and editors. (I especially enjoy the revision process of the book. Weird, I know.) Storytelling has always inhabited my drawing. As I write more, it finds its expression in words. I am excited about where the immortal quill takes me next.

  • When people see my work, I hope they find a smile. I hope when someone encounters my work it makes them laugh. Joy is really what I want to convey. It’s always been that way for me. Grit or darkness are not part of what I do. That’s not on purpose, that’s just what comes out when I work. I think that’s why the children’s industry is a fit for me. It’s a place where it’s still ok to smile.
