Illustrator and writer Sarah McIntyre is easy to spot in her pointy spectacles and hats. Her solo picture books include There's a Shark in the Bath, Dinosaur Firefighters, Dinosaur Police, The New Neighbours, and a comic book called Vern and Lettuce. She also loves working with friends, such as David O'Connell on Jampires. Her highly illustrated Reeve & McIntyre chapter books with Philip Reeve have won major prizes and include Pugs of the Frozen North, Oliver and the Seawigs, Cakes in Space and Jinks & O'Hare Funfair Repair (renamed 'Carnival in a Fix' in the USA). They come up with the story ideas, together, Philip writes them, then Sarah illustrates them. But they often get together when they need help, since both can write and illustrate. They're currently working on four books in the Roly-Poly Flying Pony series; the first is called The Legend of Kevin. In 2015, Sarah and James Mayhew founded #PicturesMeanBusiness, a campaign showing people how everyone benefits when illustrators are credited properly for their work. Find out more on their new website (built by Soni Speight): picturesmeanbusiness.com. They continue to try to get illustrators credited on book covers, in reviews, in awards lists, in the media, and in the book data publishers submit to Nielsen. Since it's a positive win-win campaign, they find the publishing world very receptive to change, and they're working to publicise the campaign more widely. Please spread the word by using the hashtag and linking to the website!Sarah frequently updates her blog with drawings and event photos.
